Honorary commanders 2026 Cohort IV graduation and 2027 Cohort V induction ceremony
GOODFELLOW AIR FORCE BASE, Texas — The 17th Training Wing and the Goodfellow Honorary Commander Alumni Association celebrated the graduation of the 2026 Cohort IV honorary commanders and the induction of the 2027 Cohort V honorary commanders at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas, Sept. 30.
The Honorary Commander Program allows members of the community to learn about the mission and culture of the 17th TRW, the U.S. Air Force and the Department of War through a 1-year program that immerses them within military units at and around Goodfellow. Through these immersions, military personnel gain increased association and connectivity with the local community and its leaders. This enables the 17th TRW to cultivate a strong, one-community approach with the people of San Angelo and Tom Green County.
“The Honorary Commander Program is an incredible opportunity to give back to our community while building stronger connections between Goodfellow Air Force Base and the people it serves,” said Brook Dickison, HCAA chairman. “Embrace every opportunity the program offers. The relationships you build and the understanding you gain can inspire meaningful support for years to come.”
Cohort IV spent the last year participating in hands-on opportunities where they learned how Goodfellow functions through group immersions, base events and community engagement. Lane Carter, Tom Green County judge, received the “Distinguished Graduate” award for having the most participation in the program.
“The foundational purpose of the Honorary Commander Program is intentional,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Matthew Norton, 17th Training Wing commander. “We need your help with our fellow citizens to understand the outsized impact that this installation and this wing have on our national security. Together as one community, there’s nothing we can’t achieve.”
